The maze is designed and planted by farmer/artist Allen Cockerline. "I plant the basic design of the maze with only a sketch in my pocket.
I draw the shapes with a six row corn planter. I go back and remove corn rows when the corn is only a few inches tall. The maze evolves as I go. I try to make it difficult but not impossible to find my way around. But truth of the matter is, I spend a lot of time lost,
but eventually it all works out. And then there is always the suspense when I get up in the air to photograph the maze. Will it look the way I planned?" "This whole
thing started out as a visual puzzle for my own enjoyment and curiosity.
We have a great time creating this and have found the enjoyment others get
from it very rewarding. Families in particular seem to have a great time
doing this. There is not much in this world that entire families can do
that becomes a common denominator between them."
